E. Guigal Côtes Du Rhône Rouge 2014
Côtes du Rhône 2014 E. Guigal
Domaine Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, small ancient town and birthplace of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It features a unique vineyard where vines and wine are celebrated for 2400 years. Arrived in 1924 at the age of 14, the founder vinified 67 crops in Côte-Rôtie and participated in his early career development Vidal-Fleury establishment.
In 1961, although very young, Marcel Guigal took over the management of the house alongside his father brutally beaten to total blindness. He was joined in 1973 by his wife Bernadette and work together on the development of the family business. In 1975, their son Philippe was born, today oenologist of the house. Accompanied by his wife Eve, he represents the third generation and continues the family work in the service of the great wines of the Rhone Valley.
Since 1946, work and perseverance paid off and some stages attested, including the redemption of Vidal-Fleury establishment in the mid-80s, who still retain an entire business and technical autonomy.
Ten years later, the year 1995 was marked by the acquisition of the famous Château d'Ampuis, historic landmark and wine whose long history is directly related to the appellation Côte-Rôtie. Former stronghold of the twelfth century castle embellished by Renaissance Pleasure in the sixteenth century, it is located in lush vineyards and bordered by the River King: the Rhone.
The Castle of Ampuis became the headquarters of the Maison Guigal while the offices and cellars remained in the ancient village of Ampuis.
In 2001, the Guigal domain has been embellished by the recovery of the former Domaine Jean-Louis GRIPPAT in St. Joseph and Hermitage and the Old Domain VALLOUIT Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes Hermitage.
Domaine Guigal vinifies and ages in cellars in Ampuis northern appellations of the Rhône Valley. Raising large southern appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône is also available in these cellars.
The Guigal family has acquired in 2006 from Domaine de Bonserine and shoulder in its development which remains independent of the Domaine Guigal.
We're not so far from the first square meters of the small vault where Etienne Guigal was busy, but it is now in three hectares of caves and galleries that abound barrels, tanks and vats. The history and soul of the Guigal family are present in those places that quietly home to exceptional wines.
Southern Rhône wines are increasingly popular and this wine is a brilliant example of why. With an abundance of dark fruit flavour and a hint of spice, this wine is perfect to match with a hearty everyday meal.
